Adam Riess is an American astrophysicist known for his work on supernovae and the accelerating expansion of the universe. He was born in 1969 in Washington, D.C. Riess received his Ph.D. in astrophysics from Harvard University and currently serves as a professor at Johns Hopkins University. Along with his colleagues, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2011 for his contributions to the discovery of the expansion of the universe using distant supernovae.
