Alexander Mackendrick was a Scottish-American film director and educator known for his work in the British film industry. He started his career as a director at Ealing Studios and gained recognition for films like 'Whisky Galore!' and 'The Man in the White Suit'. Mackendrick later moved to the United States where he directed the acclaimed film 'Sweet Smell of Success'. In addition to his directing career, he also taught film at the California Institute of the Arts.
