Biography

Augustus, also known as Octavian, was the first Roman emperor, reigning from 27 BC until his death in AD 14. He was born Gaius Octavius Thurinus on September 23, 63 BC, in Rome. Augustus rose to power after the assassination of his great-uncle and adoptive father, Julius Caesar, in 44 BC. Through a series of military and political victories, he established himself as the undisputed leader of Rome. Augustus ushered in an era of relative peace, known as the Pax Romana, and implemented various reforms that laid the foundation for the Roman Empire's prosperity and stability.
