Barbara Ann Scott was a Canadian figure skater who was born on May 9, 1928, in Ottawa, Ontario. She began skating at a young age and quickly rose to prominence in the sport. Scott became the first and only Canadian to win the Olympic gold medal in ladies' singles figure skating in 1948. Throughout her career, she also won two World Championships and several national titles in Canada. Scott retired from competitive skating at the age of 21 and became a skating coach and an ambassador for the sport. She was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame and the Skate Canada Hall of Fame for her contributions to figure skating.
