Benjamin Robbins Curtis was an American attorney and jurist who served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was born in Massachusetts in 1809 and graduated from Harvard University. Curtis was known for his dissenting opinion in the Dred Scott v. Sandford case, where he argued against the majority's decision to deny citizenship to African Americans. He resigned from the Supreme Court in protest against the decision and went on to have a successful legal career.
