Boss Tweed, born William Magear Tweed in 1823, was an influential American politician and political boss during the 19th century. He rose to power in New York City through his leadership of the Tammany Hall political machine, which controlled much of the city's political landscape. Tweed was known for his corrupt practices, including bribery, kickbacks, and election fraud. His reign of political dominance came to an end when he was arrested and convicted on charges of corruption, leading to his imprisonment and eventual death in 1878.
