Box Brown, born Henry Brown in 1815, was a 19th-century African American who escaped from slavery by mailing himself in a wooden crate to Philadelphia. He became known as Henry 'Box' Brown due to his remarkable journey. After gaining his freedom, Brown became a prominent abolitionist and lecturer, using his own story to raise awareness about the horrors of slavery. He also published a narrative of his life, titled 'Narrative of the Life of Henry Box Brown.' Despite facing challenges and threats, Brown continued to advocate for the abolition of slavery until his death.
