When you write, it's like braiding your hair. Taking a handful of coarse unruly strands and attempting to bring them unity.

If you just sit there and look at your page and nothing comes, no good excuse will work. You have to pick up your bag, and put it on your back, and take your shovel and your seeds and plunge them into the earth. Then cover them with a prayer and walk away

Writing is finally about one thing: going into a room alone and doing it. Putting words on paper that have never been there in quite that way before. And although you are physically by yourself, the haunting Demon never leaves you, that Demon being the knowledge of your own terrible limitations, your hopeless inadequacy, the impossibility of achieving perfection, and, even if you did, of your work ever being seen, or understood. The Demon never lets you alone, never gives you peace, never stops haunting you

Failure ended up being what led me to most of my successes. You ever notice in life, it usually ends up being a happy accident and a fortunate mistake.

That's the hard part about writing--putting the words down. But it's really rewarding when you see how things turn out
