Charles Curtis was an American politician and attorney who served as the 31st Vice President of the United States under President Herbert Hoover. He was born in 1860 in Kansas and was a member of the Kaw Nation, making him the first person with significant Native American ancestry to reach such a high office. Curtis had a long political career, serving in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate before becoming Vice President in 1929.
