Biography

Chen Guangcheng is a Chinese civil rights activist known for his work on human rights issues in rural China. Blind since an early age, Chen became a self-taught legal advocate focusing on cases of government abuse, forced sterilizations, and land seizures. His activism and advocacy for the rights of the disabled and marginalized populations led to his house arrest and eventual escape to the U.S. embassy in Beijing in 2012. Chen continues to speak out for human rights globally, drawing attention to injustices and abuses.
