I've always liked depressing music because a lot of times, listening to it when you're down can actually make you feel less depressed. Also, even though a person may have problems with depression, sometimes you can actually be kind of comfortable in that space because you know how to operate within it.

But with us, it's more about showing how well we perform on the night, and making sure people listen to the album the way we wanted it to sound. We don't have or need to do all of this media stuff, we don't want to impose anything on anyone - we are happy to just stand in the background.

I've never understood bands that sort of exist from album to album - I've been in this band from when I was 15 or 16 and it's kind of my baby, as much as you wouldn't want to say that. And that's a rare opportunity - a chance of a lifetime to have the same artistic problems and to see how they evolve, it's amazing.

I've always seen Deftones as a band where people can try on different musical ideas and still be able to do what they do and evolve as a band.

I think people are more apt to believe and accept ideas that they are comfortable with.
