Edith Wharton was an American novelist, short story writer, and designer. She was born in 1862 to a wealthy and socially prominent family in New York City. Wharton is best known for her novels exploring the lives and morals of the American upper class during the Gilded Age. She was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1921 for her novel 'The Age of Innocence.' Wharton was also a trailblazer in interior design and garden landscaping.
