About Anson Jones

Anson Jones was a physician, businessman, and the fourth and final President of the Republic of Texas. Born in Massachusetts in 1798, he moved to Texas in 1833 and quickly became involved in the Texan independence movement. Jones played a key role in the negotiation of the Treaties of Velasco, which ended the Texas Revolution. He served as Minister to the United States and then was elected as President of the Republic of Texas in 1844. After Texas was annexed by the United States, Jones retired from politics and returned to practicing medicine.
