Art Shell is a former American football offensive tackle and coach. He played for the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders of the NFL and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989. Shell became the first African American head coach in the modern NFL era when he was hired by the Raiders in 1989.
