About Arthur Ashe
Arthur Ashe (1943-1993) was an American professional tennis player and the first Black man to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open. Off the court, he was an active civil rights advocate, always fighting against racial discrimination and supporting various charitable causes. Ashe's career was cut short due to contracting HIV from a blood transfusion in the 1980s, and he spent his final years working to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.
