Bernice Johnson Reagon is an American historian, singer, composer, scholar, and social activist. She is best known as the founder of the a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock, a Grammy Award-winning group that blends African American spirituals, blues, folk, gospel music, and more. Reagon played a significant role in the Civil Rights Movement as a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and fought for social justice through her music and activism. She has also been a professor at various universities and contributed greatly to African American cultural studies.
