About Bill Bowerman

Bill Bowerman was an American track and field coach and co-founder of Nike, Inc. He was born on February 19, 1911, in Portland, Oregon. Bowerman served as the head track coach at the University of Oregon from 1949 to 1972, where he trained many successful athletes including Steve Prefontaine. His innovative coaching methods and focus on athletic footwear design ultimately led him to partner with Phil Knight in founding Nike in 1964.
