About Billy Hughes
Billy Hughes was an Australian politician who served as the 7th Prime Minister of Australia, holding office from 1915 to 1923. Born in London in 1862, Hughes migrated to Australia in 1884 and became actively involved in trade unions and politics. He was known for his strong advocacy for military conscription during World War I, which led to a split in the Australian Labor Party. Hughes later formed the Nationalist Party and continued to lead the government through the end of the war and the negotiation of the Treaty of Versailles.
