About Charles Anthon
Charles Anthon (1797–1867) was an American classical scholar and educator. He served as a professor of classics and languages at Columbia University. Anthon was known for his expertise in ancient Greek and Latin languages and literature. He was the editor of several classical works and textbooks, contributing significantly to the study of classical languages in the United States. Anthon also played a role in the field of numismatics, the study of coins, by examining and cataloging ancient coins and artifacts.
