Charles Evers was an American civil rights activist and politician. He was the older brother of Medgar Evers, a prominent civil rights activist who was assassinated in 1963. Charles Evers became involved in the civil rights movement after his brother's death, leading voter registration drives and protests in Mississippi. He made history by becoming the first African American mayor in Mississippi since Reconstruction, serving as mayor of Fayette from 1969 to 1981.
