About Dalai Lama

The 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and the former political leader of Tibet. He was born in 1935 in northeastern Tibet and was recognized as the incarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama at a young age. In 1950, he assumed full political power after the Chinese invasion of Tibet and embarked on a path of nonviolent resistance against Chinese rule. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his efforts to promote peace and human rights.
