Joan of Arc, also known as the Maid of Orléans, was a French peasant girl who, claiming divine guidance, led the French army to several victories during the Hundred Years' War. Born in Domrémy in 1412, she began experiencing visions of saints encouraging her to support Charles VII and recover France from English domination. At the age of 17, she boldly approached the Dauphin and convinced him to let her join the military campaign. Despite facing skepticism and opposition, Joan of Arc played a crucial role in the siege of Orléans and the coronation of Charles VII in Reims, before being captured by the Burgundians and eventually executed for heresy in 1431.
