Abe Fortas was an American attorney and jurist who served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Born in 1910 in Memphis, Tennessee, Fortas co-founded a law firm before becoming a prominent defender of civil liberties. In 1965, he was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson to the Supreme Court where he made significant contributions to landmark decisions on constitutional law.
