About Alan G. Poindexter
Alan G. Poindexter was a United States Navy officer and NASA astronaut. He was born on November 5, 1961, in Pasadena, California. Poindexter served as a naval aviator and test pilot before being selected by NASA in 1998. During his career at NASA, he piloted two Space Shuttle missions, STS-122 in 2008 and STS-131 in 2010. Poindexter retired from NASA and the Navy in 2010 and passed away on July 1, 2012, in Florida due to a jet ski accident.
