Alberta Hunter was an American blues singer, songwriter, and nurse. She began her singing career in her early teens and went on to perform in vaudeville, cabarets, and theaters. In the 1920s and 1930s, she recorded hundreds of songs and became a popular recording artist. Later, she retired from music and worked as a nurse for over 20 years before making a comeback in the 1970s.
