Justice

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.

A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but by his inaction, and in either case, he is justly accountable to them for the injury.

The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others.

Anarchy is not a guarantee that some people won't kill, rape, or steal from others. Government is a guarantee that some will.

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.

I stand up against hate. I don't care who says anything about me being a ‘social justice warrior.’

It's not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself.

The world is wrong.

You are in the dark, in the car, watching the black-tarred street being swallowed by speed; he tells you his dean is making him hire a person of color when there are so many great writers out there.

Because white men can’t/ police their imagination/ black people are dying.

What I’m suggesting is that authoritarianism rises when we cannot face our racial history. But it also rises when we cannot face our history of gender oppression, or our history of capitalism.

Struggle is really not intrinsic to the African-American community. Struggle is intrinsic to the United States.

Racism is not merely a simplistic hatred. It is, more often, broad sympathy toward some and broader skepticism toward others.

Comedy can always be taken too far. Your bottom line is to make sure you don't hurt anybody's feelings.

If you keep giving him a platform, he's going to keep saying more and more terrible things.
