Giordano Bruno (1548-1600) was an Italian philosopher, astronomer, mathematician, and poet. He is best known for his cosmological theories, which combined Copernican astronomy with a pantheistic view of the universe. Bruno's controversial ideas on the infinity of the universe and the plurality of worlds led to his conflicts with the Catholic Church. In 1600, he was convicted of heresy and burned at the stake in Rome.
