Follow your inner moonlight; don't hide the madness.

The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars.

In fact, writers thrive under censorship, for they sell their books to a smaller group.

Just living is not enough... one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.

To travel is to live.

Resist much, obey little.

The 'Enlightenment', which discovered the liberties, also invented the disciplines.

No cause is left but the most ancient of all, the one, in fact, that from the beginning of our history has determined the very existence of politics, the cause of freedom versus tyranny.

We are our choices.

Man is condemned to be free.

Hell is other people.

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.

If you don't like someone's story, write your own.

I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be.

A person is a fool to become a writer. His only compensation is absolute freedom. He has no master except his own soul, and that, I am sure, is why he does it.

So, please, oh please, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away, and in its place you can install a lovely bookshelf on the wall.

Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory.
